Job Summary
Applications are invited for the post of Bursar at the University

Duties and Key Functions The Bursar shall act as the Accountant of the University with the overall responsibility of maintaining proper books of accounts and management of resources.
The Bursar is part of senior management team of the University and is answerable to the Rector and acts in accordance with the general directions of the Deputy Rector for Administration and Finance.
The Bursar prepares the University Budget in conjunction with various departmental and institutional heads.
He prepares monthly and annual financial statements of the University
Responsible for all accounting transactions in terms of the University Finance Manual, Rules and Regulations.
Responsible for developing accounting and control systems
Responsible for the preparation of the annual audit as directed by the Council's Finance Committee
The Bursar shall maintain and control the Asset Register

Qualifications
Be a holder of a degree in Accounting. Additional qualifications will give a distinct advantage.
Be a registered Public Accountant
Have at least eight years managerial experience, of which a minimum of four years will have been at a senior level in a large organization
Be highly computer literate
Have a strong understanding of the challenges facing higher education institutions
Be able to contribute to the overall good management of the University and keep pace with other changes in the internal and external environment
Have a proven track record of taking full responsibility for a multi-faceted job in a dynamic environment
Be a highly credible, reliable, accountable, transparent, honest, loyal and mature person who enjoys an outstanding reputation in their chosen field.
