Opportunity
Abt Associates is seeking a qualified Technical Specialist / District Coordinator to support the International Economic Growth Division. Abt Associates Inc. is seeking qualified applicants for the position of District Coordinator for a US Government funded comprehensive malaria project in Zimbabwe. The 5-year project will work to strengthen the capacity of the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) at the national, provincial, district, and community levels, in the areas of case management and malaria in pregnancy, LLIN distribution, social behavior change communication, surveillance/M&E and research, and therapeutic efficacy trials.

Under the supervision of the Provincial Capacity Building Specialists, the District Coordinators (8) will be in charge of implementing the project’s technical activities at the district level in close coordination with MOHCC and NMCP staff. This position is based in the district at the district health office.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Plans, coordinates and implements all annual program activities within his/her designated districts.
Supervises activities in 3 designated districts.
Ensures that activities are on track and in accordance with PMI and NMCP guidelines.
Drives the PIP process at the district level including skills assessments, action plan development, and continuous supportive review.
Works with technical staff to develop, plan, and implement activities focused on case management, including malaria in pregnancy, LLIN distribution, and social behavioral change communication.
Works with district health teams to create responsive tailored interventions.
Ensures that the districts’ strategy and activities align with overall project goals.
Organizes trainings at community/health center level and ensures data and information are collected at district level.
Any other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills / Prerequisites

Master’s Degree in public health, business administration, supply chain, pharmaceutical management or related field.
At least 6 of experience, preferably in managing health projects.
Experience working with government entities, stakeholder groups, health workers, local authorities, and community groups.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Previous work experience in Zimbabwe is required. Previous work experience with USAID health projects and the NCMP is desirable.
Willingness to travel be located and work at the district level.
Oral and written English language required, additional knowledge of recognized local languages preferred.
Must be Zimbabwean or have a Zimbabwean work permit

Minimum Qualifications

(6+) years of experience and a master degree OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
