Introduction:
The UK Government's Department for International Development (DFID) Zimbabwe, wishes to appoint a Livelihoods Adviser. This post will initially be for a fixed term of 2 years -with the possibility of an extension thereafter.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

  • Lead adviser for the Livelihoods and Food Security Programme (£43m, 4 year programme) covering productive safety nets, agricultural productivity and nutrition and market development.
  • Provide technical input into the design of a new Resilience Programme.
  • Ensure poverty and market orientated approaches within the Livelihoods programmes.
  • Build an effective working relationship with all relevant stakeholders involved in the livelihoods sector.
  • Technical input into programme risk management and monitoring, focusing on results and impact.
  • Lead on DFID Zimbabwe's livelihoods. food security and agriculture sector situation analysis.
  • Professional support to the DFID livelihoods cadre and broader programme portfolio.


Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications. Personal Qualities. Skills. Experience and Competencies Required (Person Specification):

  • A Master's degree, or equivalent level of academic and professional experience in a discipline relevant to agriculture, agricultural economics, rural development and livelihoods;
  • At least 3 years' experience of working in Zimbabwe or a similar context, on livelihoods/agriculture, markets and food security;
  • The ability to deliver quality work on time in a complex environment;
  • Technical and programming experience of livelihoods and instruments that can be used to build them including agricultural productivity, building markets, productive safety nets, providing access to financial services;
  • The ability to analyse the vulnerabilities and insecurities poor people face, and the measures available for dealing with risk and predictable food insecurity;
  • The ability to provide policy advice and leadership on livelihoods, food security, improved agricultural production, resilience, climate change and economic opportunities for the poor;
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to confidently engage in policy and strategy discussions;
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, and experience of producing high quality briefings;
  • Demonstration of effective team-working and the capacity to develop strong working relationships within DFID, external colleagues and project partners;
  • Demonstration of the Civil Service Competencies at Level 3 and the Technical Competencies required for the DFID Livelihoods Cadre.


Remuneration:
A competitive salary starting at US$60.159 per year is offered, plus benefits.
