Background

UN Women under the Joint Programme for Gender Equality (JPGE) is supporting the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development (MWAGCD) to develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation system for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) which is in line with the Government’s National Monitoring and Evaluation Policy which was officially launched in September 2015. To facilitate this process, UN Women seeks to recruit a national UNV Monitoring and Evaluation Intern who will support the MWAGCD with the process. The process is divided into two phases (i) support development of the M & E system (ii) support operationalization and implementation of the M & E system.


The UNV Monitoring and Evaluation Intern will be located at UN Women Zimbabwe under the supervision of the UN Women Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. The UNV will work closely with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development.
UNV Monitoring and Evaluation will support implementation of the Joint Programme on Gender Equality accountability pillar with a special focus on supporting the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development to develop and implement the national M & E system on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. This is an activity supported by UN Women through the Joint Program on Gender Equality (JPGE).

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of UN Women Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and the guidance of the Ministry of Women Affairs, gender and Community Development Director-Gender, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Support the process of developing the Monitoring and Evaluation System on GEWE:
Contributes to reviewing draft reports produced by consultants;
Assist in coordinating meetings for the priority sectors – i.e. Reference Group and Core group meetings;
Assist in coordinating meetings with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development;

Support operationalisation and implementation of the M&E system;
Assist in reviewing the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development M & E Plan and data collection forms;
Working under the guidance of the Gender Director, support for collection of data from the Ministry’s three departments and sector ministries working in close collaboration with the Gender Focal Persons or government officials from the ministries tasked to support implementation of the M & E system;
Working under the guidance of the Gender Director, support production of consolidated reports by the Ministry;
Organising Gender Focal Persons review meetings to discuss the reports and utilise information generated from the reports to inform programming and decision making;
Any other tasks related to M & E work assigned by UN Women;
Work in close collaboration with ZIMSTAT to organize quarterly National Gender Statistics Committee meetings and any other work related to the committee.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNVpublications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc;
Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Required Skills and Experience

A University degree in development studies, gender studies or related social science field;
Training in monitoring and evaluation from a recognised institution;
A minimum of one year working in the field of monitoring and evaluation;
Experience in working with different stakeholders or teams in coordinating reporting writing;
Demonstrates commitment to UN Women’s mission, vision and values;
Demonstrated interest and/or experience in gender equality and women’s empowerment;
Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team;
Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;
Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions;
Fluency in spoken and written English;
Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;
Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others);
Willingness to travel nationally.
