Introduction:
Our client is Zimbabwe’s biggest Lithium miner and has been mining Petralite and Tantalite for the past 45 years.

They have a vacancy for a Chief Metallurgist/Plant Manager.
This will be a permanent position based at the mine and remuneration will be paid in USD.



General Accountability:

  • The Plant Manager reports directly to the CEO and works closely with the Resident Mining Engineer.
  • The position is responsible for the overall output of finished product from the Mine, from receipt of ROM on plant pad to outbound transportation, as well as for design, implementation and execution of mine’s metallurgical and processing operations as well as implementation of planned expansion projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure production of budgeted quantities of finished product meeting all required specifications;
  • Evaluate current and potential processing methods;
  • Develop and manage metallurgical operations and work practices that maximize operational efficiencies;
  • Improve plant operating performance, specifically increase yield, reduce waste, promote cost reductions and optimize operating efficiency;
  • Monitor and analyse key metallurgical performance indicators from process operations, agree and implement corrective actions with production management;
  • Manage metallurgical and process engineering activities, working with the operations team and external consultants;
  • Create and distribute periodic metallurgical, process and daily production reports;
  • Manage the overall design of process flow sheets, plant layouts, material handling systems, manpower requirements, equipment and spares procurement and material utilization;
  • Lead, direct and support all aspects of laboratory test work covering final product quality testing prior to dispatch, flotation, extraction and separation processes for planned projects involving tantalum and niobium bearing ores in addition to existing products being Lithium and Cesium based;
  • Ensure smooth and efficient co-operation with external laboratories, both professional and customer;
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment;
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance of the entire plant with the laws and rules Zimbabwe;
  • Ensure disciplined communication between plant, vendors, customers and management;
  • Exercise cooperative and sensitive management skills towards local managers and staff ensuring that existing management expertise and team spirit are enhanced.

Job Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy or Materials Sciences;
  • Minimum of ten years field metallurgical experience covering mineral processing, flotation and/or dense media separation plants (Experience with lithium or tantalum ores preferable but not essential);
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience and involvement with process design and implementation, and/or project management and evaluation;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Management / Supervision experience in remote location/s.
