CryptoART study is a study to determine if initiation of a 'screen and treat' approach to cryptococcal meningitis can decrease morbidity and mortality among individuals with a CD4 count below 100 cells/ml. The study will screen individuals receiving HIV/ART care at 8 clinics in Harare. It is a study conducted by the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences, Department of Medicine and funded by CDC.
 
Job description
The position involves carrying out research related clinical duties including patient recruitment, clinical evaluation and follow up, according to internationally recognized standards of ethical conduct of clinical research.
 
Purpose of the position
To assist the research nurse in conducting study related procedures that include screening and recruiting patients, entering clinical data into a clinic database, assisting with study related procedures including venepuncture and conducting point of care tests.
Key tasks and responsibilities
To conduct screening of study participants and provide information to participants and their relatives; To recruit participants for the study, carry out all study related procedures including consenting, recruitment, clinical evaluations, venepuncture, point of care tests, and participant follow up; To complete case reporting forms and enter data into a database; To ensure accurate clinical data is obtained from all study sites; To ensure timely collection and delivery of specimens to the clinics; To ensure timely receipt of results for study participants; To ensure that all procedures are done in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) for clinical research; To be accessible to study participants and their families in order to address all study related concerns; Review and assess data collected and write reports
The research nurse assistant should possess knowledge of medical terminology, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality. This position is ideal for a nurse who is wishing to enter the field of clinical research, they will work under the supervision of a supervising research nurse.
We expect the following qualifications
Nursing qualification with certificate to practice; At least 1-2 years of clinical experience; Excellent English and report writing skills; Excellent computer skills as all evaluations will be completed electronically; Ability to work well with others and integrate into the public health care system; Focused, energetic individual who believes in patient or participant oriented care, is compassionate about medicine and HIV, and the care of individuals with advanced HIV infection.
