Title: Epidemiologist (Local Consultant),
Duration: 6 months

Background and Justification
There is a growing need for rigorous analysis and improved capacity for data triangulation, reconciliation of results and coherent communication so that results can be beer utilized to improve programming and advocacy, The CCORE (Collaborating Centre for Operational Research and Evaluation) is playing a lead role in coordinating these activities within UNICEF and externally.
Against this background and in response to the growing recognition of the need for robust information to inform policies, programming and practices, CCORE wishes to engage an experienced Epidemiologist Consultant. This work will be undertaken over a period of six months and requires the services of a nationally reputed specialist epidemiologist with program planning, evaluation skills and experience to support and build capacity in basic epidemiology, provide oversight and technical support to researchers, ensuring the application of appropriate methodology as it relates to data collection, survey sampling techniques and data analysis.

Specific tasks
Under the supervision of the Head of CCORE and working \Within the Terms of Reference of the CCORE Reference Group, the epidemiologist will:
Work on the H4+ CIDA Initiative providing the monitoring and Evaluation support
Work on Provincial Medical Reports providing trend analysis and monitoring
Work on and support the Head of CCORE in selecting small scale research studies for funding by CCORE
Provide relevant mentoring (Epidemiological) of small scale studies funded by CCORE
Develop and manage secondary data analysis as may be required
Work closely with the COORE Team in supporting studies and Reference Group Meetings as required provide professional expertise and assistance for timely information/data collection and data analysis, in particular studies with an equity focus, and in the preparation of reports emanating from the CCORE.
Assist UNICEF in consolidating its knowledge management platform and providing quality assurance for all CCORE reports
Any other duties as assigned

Requirements
Qualifications
Advanced University degree in Epidemiology or Statistics other relevant Master's degree,
At least 5 years' relevant working experience in data entry, primary and secondary data analysis and reporting and ability to work accurately
Excellent communication skills
A thorough knowledge of statistics
Demonstrated ability to identify, compile and analyse data
Excellent analytical and writing skills in English
Strong computer skills - a good command of MS Access, Excel, SPSS and/or other statistical packages
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
