Job Summary
To provide in—country technical support to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Family AIDS Initiative (FAI) partners and the national AIDS & TB programme, to improve the quality of life for families infected and affected by HIV in Zimbabwe. The incumbent will contribute to the strengthening of the continuum of care approaches within the overall Family AIDS Initiative programme with a specific focus on the pediatric component of the EGPAF programme. The technical officer will report to and work closely with the EGPAF Technical Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate with the technical team in country to ensure integration between PMTCT and care and treatment activities within a family centered continuum of care framework.
Support MoHCW in the development of pediatric care and treatment strategy.
Support the AIDS & TB unit, in the scaling up the national training programme with a specific focus on pediatric diagnosis, pediatric OI/ART management including psychosocial support.
Support the scaling up of ART in MCH services in all districts.
Support the national scaling up of early infant diagnosis using an integrated approach and monitor the EGPAF supported EID sample transportation system.
ln collaboration with the AIDS & TB unit within the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, support the development and implementation of a national PMTCT mentorship programme.
Work closely with the PMTCT district focal person co-ordinators and the VHW co-ordinator to strengthen follow up mechanisms for HIV exposed infants and their families.
ln collaboration with the EGPAF technical team and FAI partners, contribute to strengthening a standardized monitoring and evaluation system in support of the continuum of care,
Liaise with DTTU and other stakeholders to ensure availability of HIV drugs and commodities.
Contribute to the development of annual work plans, compiling reports, developing proposals and disseminating findings within the FAI consortium.
Serve as member of the national PMTCT partnership forum, national care and treatment partners' forum, and other relevant fora including working groups or subcommittees in support of the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare AIDS and TB Unit.
Work closely with the communications and advocacy officer, advocate for wider access to treatment and care for CLH
Carry out any additional duties within reason as identified by the Country Director or Senior Technical Advisor
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention care and treatment in Zimbabwe
Experience in working with the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare structures
Computer literacy
Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to manage a team
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability and willingness to undertake frequent in-country travel
Education and Experience .
A Medical Degree with 3-5 years’ experience in clinical management of opportunistic infections and ART
Sound training and experience in clinical management of HIV
An MPH would be an added advantage
Valid registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Zimbabwe
